About EMROx

Emergency Medicine Research in Oxford

The EMROx team aims to foster, develop and promote Emergency Medicine research activity in Oxford, and has expanded since its inception to run a large portfolio of studies. EMROx seeks to actively promote the development and accreditation of skills related to research in the ED workforce, e.g. GCP training., and encourages the  active participation of clinicians working in the ED in study administration and recruitment of participants

Sally Beer


Lead Research Nurse     


Sally started her nursing career in South Africa, and moved to the UK in 1999.      

She has worked predominantly in Critical Care and Emergency environments, before moving into research in the Emergency Department in 2011.  Her first experience of research was consenting and recruiting patients into the double-blind, randomised controlled trial of Ipratropium Bromide, in the Casualty of Groote Schuur Hospital in 1986.      


The research portfolio in the Department has grown from one study, to a current portfolio of 10 studies, with 25 completed studies, and some ‘home-grown’ studies in development.


Sally was also recently recognised as Recognised by annual region NIHR CRN Research Awards as Outstanding Research Leader

Dr Vishakha Erasu Prasad

. Vishakha is an EM Senior Registrar and an International Medical Graduate originally from India. She has since devoted her time to a forthcoming Cochrane Review of Resuscitation and Bleeding in Major Trauma, obtained further training in research methods as well was as engaging with and supporting clinical trials running within the OUH Emergency Department.

Alexis Espinosa

Senior Research Nurse

Alexis completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines and was awarded Clinical Excellence in Nursing.        


She joined the Oxford University NHSFT in 2002.        


In 2013 she joined the Emergency Department Research Team. Since then, she has earned her Postgraduate Diploma in Health Care and Research Management from Oxford Brookes University.

Domonique Georgiou

Research Nurse


Domonique attained her Adult Nursing BSc from Surrey University in 2011. 


She achieved a graduate certificate in Emergency Nursing in 2014.  Currently, she has a dual role as a research and staff nurse in the Emergency Department. Since joining the EMRox team in 2015 Domonique has completed courses in the Fundamentals of Clinical Research and masters modules in Planning and Managing Clinical Trials. 


This year she hopes to continue her studies by focussing on qualitative research methods.

Jose Martinez

Research Nurse     


Jose acquired his nursing qualifications from Balearic Islands University in 2012.         


That same year he moved to the UK where he has worked as a senior nurse in a nursing home, EAU and ED in the JR Hospital.        


Jose joined the ED Research Team in September 2016. He is the main contact for the GPED study and is currently running a trial on head immobilisation blocks in major trauma patients.

Karen Dineen

Research Nurse

 Karen obtained her Adult Nursing degree BSc (Hons) from Oxford Brookes University, in 2018. After qualifying, she joined the Emergency Assessment unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford. She has since moved to the Emergency Department, where she now works as a deputy sister. Karen joined the Emergency Department research team in 2018. She is the main contact for two of our sepsis studies in the Emergency Department, ABC Sepsis & PRONTO.
